Hidden Gems in Brac, Croatia You Can’t Miss

When the topic of travel to Croatia’s islands arises, Hvar, Vis and Korčula usually steal the spotlight. Very rarely do we hear Brač Island, pronounced ‘Brach’. If you’re looking to slow down and escape crowds in Croatia’s Adriatic coast, this ultimate guide to the underrated island of Brač is the place to start!

Relax on Brač's beautiful beaches

After my phone broke in Hvar, I was told my best bet was to try to get it fixed in Split right away. Somehow, I went on with my plan of visiting Brač Island instead. I followed my instinct, which was telling me I needed a detox for a weekend. So, with no phone I decided to disconnect from the outside world and immerse myself in Brač. Thankfully, I had my digital camera to capture some magical moments!

At first glance, it was photographs of Brač’s beautiful beach, Zlatni Rat (the Golden Horn Beach), which first caught my attention. A split of land with a unique V-shape stretching for 2 km, this pebble beach is among some of the most picturesque yet underrated beaches in Europe!

The walk from Bol Habour to Zlatni Rat is perfectly paved under the trees with plenty of restaurants and coffee shops. Along the path to the tip of the beach, there are some beautifully secluded and turquoise beaches just waiting to be enjoyed.

With a laid back, family-friendly atmosphere, this is exactly what I needed after experiencing Hvar’s party scene! It really felt like a getaway and a place to really let go and relax.

Equally, there plenty of water sport activities from paddle boarding to windsurfing on offer for activity enthusiasts!

Chill out at Auro

Auro Beach Club on Zlatni Rat Beach

Arriving at the tip of the beach, I was immediately impressed with the clearness of the water.

I decided to try out Auro, a trendy and laid-back beach club. I ordered some drinks and spent an afternoon relaxing here. There were no extra charges for sitting, which is harder to find in Hvar. There was a live DJ playing some house music alongside a saxophonist. The vibe was honestly 10/10. I loved it so much, I decided to stay here until sunset!

Though you can’t exactly catch the sunset from Auro, you can catch it setting behind a hill from the tip of the horn. What an experience and opportunity for tranquil reflection. The beach was getting emptier by sunset.

Try out these hidden gem beaches

Martinica Beach

The other side of the Harbour. The biggest mistake you can make while visiting Bol, Brač, is ignoring the beaches on the other side of the Habour. Saint Mikel and Martinica are equally as beautiful beaches and turquoise as Zlatni Rat. They’re less crowded and also have a view of the monastery.

If you’re ready for even less crowds and the next level of freedom, you’ll want to check out the well-hidden naturist beach, Grabov Rat Beach.

Hike to the highest point of the Adriatic Islands

If you’re a keen hiker the Golden Horn Beach, head up to the top of Vidova Gora Trail Head. It’s a 5km trail up to the highest point of the Adriatic Islands. The trail is signposted and you’re better off following a paper map than map apps on your phone as they prove to quite deceiving!

Getting to Brač Island

Being the largest Adriatic Island, Brač Island is pretty well connected. There are regular ferries from Split to the town of Supetar and you can also get ferries from Bol Town to Hvar and even to Dubrovnik (a 4 hour scenic trip).

If you don’t have long in Croatia and want to experience the magic of Brač Island in a speedier fashion. I’d recommend booking a day trip through your hotel to experience a few spots that are only reachable by boat!
